“I would expect to have the HTML5 app complement the iPhone and iPad apps and provide some of the functionality that’s no longer available,” Dan Leibu, Kobo’s chief technology officer, told us. He did not specify when the app will be released. In releasing an app that gets around Apple’s restrictions, Kobo is following in the footsteps of companies like the Financial Times, which launched its own HTML5 app last month.
